Tata Tigor JTP is the latest performance-oriented sedan from JT Special Vehicles or JV, a joint venture between Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives and Tata Motors. This facelift is a styled-up and go-faster version of the standard Tigor available previously. The 1199 cc petrol sedan offers you a mileage of 23.84 km and is available in two color options- Berry Red and Pearlescent White. While the shell and construction remain the same as the previous Tigor, the upgraded version now gets a turbocharged engine. Tata showcased this hot sedan for the first time in 2018 Auto Expo, and it is currently available in the market at an ex-showroom price INR 7.49 lakhs.
Externally Tigor JTP now has attractive, sporty bumpers, large 15-inch alloy wheels, contrasting black roof and electrically adjustable ORVMs (the white car gets red ORVM, and the red one get a black installation). You can also find JTP badging on the grille, side vents, and boot lid. The sub-4 meter sedan is available in two driving modes- City and Sport. The facelift also has new fog lamp housing, clear lens tail lamps, and blacked out headlamps. The dual exhaust tips complete the look of this upgraded version.
The interior of the compact-sedan also has gone through a few cosmetic changes. The manufacturers have ditched the dull grey and black tone for more attractive all-black interiors with bright red highlights at the air-con vents, and floor mats. The black seats have red honeycomb stitching at the center. The air conditioner also has climate control features; there is a multifunctional steering wheel with leather wrapping and a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS navigation. The usual safety features like dual airbags and ABS with EBD make the car competent for safe driving.
The 1.2 L petrol engine from Nexon offers a maximum power of 110 bhp@5000 rpm and a torque of 150 Nm@2000-4000 rpm. The car reaches 0-100kmph within 10 seconds which is 6 seconds faster than the earlier standard Tigor version. There are 3-cylinders in the engine with a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. Tigor JTP has front disc and a rear drum brake with the fuel tank of 35 liters capacity. The suspension is Independent Lower Wishbone, Mcpherson Strut with Coil Spring and Semi-independent Twist Beam with Dual Path Strut in the front and rear end respectively. This car is expected to offer stiff competition to Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Swift Dezire, and Honda Amaze.
There are several advantages of riding the Tigor JTP. Here are a few of them.
• The turbocharged engines can zoom you from 0-100 kmph within a mere 10 seconds. The gear shifts of this car are smooth, precise with a short throw. • The vehicle has advanced safety features like dual airbags and ABS with EBD. • The interiors of the facelift have become much more attractive with an all-black upholstery, the red detailing on the air con vents and the seats make it sportier. • The suspension of this car is of advanced category offering smooth driving experience. • The climate control AC makes the ride comfortable.
There are a few disadvantages in this car as well.
• The absence of a rear disc brake is a significant disadvantage. At this price range, Tata could have offered disc brake at both the ends. • The body of the car is based on the old Tigor, and it can be better for a compact sedan. • The touchscreen could be larger as offered in other automobiles in the same category.
Finally, we can say that if you are looking for a smart compact sedan with advanced safety features, then Tata Tigor JTP is worth buying. It is a made in India car with International standard upgrades.
