BMW introduced the first MINI product in India with the launch of Cooper Convertible in 2016. The car got a facelift in 2018 and came to India as Completely Built Units (CBUs). Bold, outgoing and open-minded are the three words which rightly describe this iconic convertible from BMW. The essence of the roof down excitement stimulates your senses and helps you capture the priceless moments of open-road joy. You get to enjoy unlimited headroom under the open sky, and the car also comes with an air of sophistication with many premium features.
The three-door soft-top version of Cooper Convertible remains based on the new UKL platform. It is the only car offering you a drop-top option at this unbelievable price range. You can operate it electrically within 18 seconds even when the vehicle is running at 30 Kmph. You also get a dynamic front bumper, front and rear LED headlights and backlights, chunky alloy wheels, and a stylish chromed twin exhaust. The headlights and fog lights are round, and there is a large oval grille between them. The flared wheel arches of the convertible offer a sporty, dynamic look. The length, width, and height are 3850 millimeters, 1727 millimeters, and 1415 millimeters respectively, and the ground clearance is 144 millimeters.
The facelifted version of the Cooper Convertible is a lot more spacious than the outgoing model. You get additional head and shoulder room in the already comfortable front seats. The comfort factor at the back seats became improved with the longer wheelbase. However, it’s still cramped for healthy adults. The car has the signature mini-theme in the dashboard with round infotainment system, speedometer, instrument cluster, door knobs, and AC vents. You also get a fair number of iconic toggle switches, with the larger red one accomplishing the engine start / stop function.
Under the hood, you get a 2.0-litre 16V Turbocharged Petrol Engine churning out a maximum power of 189 bhp@5000-6000 rpm and a peak torque of 280 Nm@1250-4600 rpm. The motor remains connected to a seven-speed automatic transmission gearbox supplying power to the front wheels; though it works quite well, still, slower than the dual-clutch boxes. Initially, you experience some lag, but, when the engine comes to life, you get a powerful performance. The acceleration of the convertible is noteworthy, and you can sprint to 100 Kmph in just 7.1 seconds. The fuel tank capacity is 44 Litres, and the average mileage is 14.59 Kmpl.
You need to invest INR 37.10 lakh (Ex-showroom Price, Delhi) to own a Mini Cooper Convertible. There are hardly any cars which can offer competition to this convertible. Volkswagen Beetle Convertible is the one which comes close in term of design and specification.
