Overview

Maruti has launched the new facelift of its popular mid-range model, Wagon R. This tall car with a unique design and several comfort features is one of the most popular cars in this price segment. It is a five seater and is available in two different engine configurations.

Exterior

The new Wagon R facelift comes with latest features that make it a great improvement over the earlier model. The few design tweaks that you will see in this model improves its looks significantly. The designers at Maruti have made this car more spacious by increasing the dimensions significantly. It is now 3655 mm long (56 mm longer), 1620 mm wide (130 mm wider) and 1675 mm taller (25 mm shorter). Additionally, the car is now lighter compared to the earlier model. At present, the company is selling seven variants of this model with different features and engine configurations. The change in the dimensions of the new facelift has given it a completely new identity. The first thing that you will notice in this car is the trendy looking chrome encrusted engine grill, which is flanked by big headlamp cluster with multi-reflector headlamps. The base model of the car rides on the 13-inch wheels, whereas the mid and upper-end trims are blessed with a bigger 14-inch wheel. The rear profile of this car has also some subtle changes, like a redesigned tail lamp cluster, the licence plate is on the boot lid and the rear bumper does not come with any fog lamp.

Interior

The changed dimension of the Wagon R facelift has made the passenger cabin more spacious, which allows all the riders good amount of leg space. Even the boot space of the new facelift is wider which allows you to carry more luggages on a long journey. The material used for furnishing the cabin is very good and even the plastic used in the completely redesigned dashboard is of premium quality. The dashboard comes integrated with a 7-inch infotainment screen that allows you to control the various functions of the car through a swipe of your finger. For passenger entertainment, the new Wagon R facelift is blessed with a Harman sound unit. All these features make it highly enjoyable to ride in this car.

Engine

The new Wagon R facelift is available with two engine configurations. The base and mid- range models are blessed with a 1-litre petrol engine that can produce a maximum power of 68PS that results in a crushing torque of 90 Nm. The upper-end trim is blessed with a 1.2 litres engine that produces a maximum power of 83PS resulting in a torque of 113 Nm. Both these engine variants are available with the manual and automatic transmission system.

Price and competition

The price of this car is in the range of Rs. 4.9 lakhs (approximate) to Rs.5.69 Lakhs (approximate). The major competitors of this car in the market are Huandia i20, Ford Figo, Maruti Alto and Maruti Swift.
