Maruti Suzuki’s popular premium hatchback Baleno gets facelifted with fresh set of convenience and safety features.As per ARAI, the new Baleno manual transmission petrol variant has a mileage of 22kmpl and 25kmpl for diesel variant. The automatic transmission petrol variant gives 18kmpl. The 2019 Baleno is offered in 6 different colours – Nexa Blue, Pearl Phoenix Red, Premium Autumn Orange, Metallic Magma Grey, Metallic Premium Silver and Pearl Arctic White.
The new Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes with a number of subtle design updates to enhance its looks. The wider grille and larger central air dam in the front give new Baleno a more aggressive look than the previous model. The newly designed front bumper sports fog lamps and air ducts on either side which are surrounded by C-shaped profile. The headlamp design of 2019 Baleno remains similar to the previous model, however, it now features LED projectors units replacing the bi-xenon projectors. The facelifted Baleno also gets a set of dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels. The side and rear profile are same as the older version except for new slightly tweaked taillights.
On the inside, the facelifted Baleno gets a dual-tone black-and-blue interior colour scheme. It is equipped with new SmartPlay studio connected infotainment system which is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, telephony, voice recognition, parking camera and Bluetooth audio, etc. Safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution), central locking are standard across all variants. It also offers SmartPlay Studio App for real-time vehicle information, navigation, traffic updates and alerts. Also, the new Baleno has a bootspace of 339 L.
The petrol variants of new Baleno are powered by 1.2-Litre 4 cylinder VVT petrol engine with dual overhead camshaft giving peak power of 83bhp at 6000rpm and peak torque of 115Nm at 4000rpm whereas the diesel trims of new Baleno sources its power from 1.3-Litre DDiS200 diesel engine which gives a max. power of 74bhp at 4000rpm and max. torque of 190Nm at 2000rpm. The 5-speed manual transmission is standard across the range, the petrol-powered variant can also be had with a CVT. Also, Maruti Suzuki has introduced a new, BS-VI compliant Dualjet motor paired with its Smart Hybrid system in the new Baleno along dual VVT tech which claims to bring about 25% reduction in Nitrogen Oxide(NOx) emissions.
The base variant of Maruti Suzuki Baleno starts at Rs. 5.6 lakhs and the top variants comes in the range of 9 lakhs. It has been the best-selling car in the segment and the updated Baleno 2019 with refreshed looks is all set to take on its competitors – Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo.
