Maruti Suzuki Gypsy is the great off-roader of everyone’s dream. This car was launched back in 1983 and after several tweaks and facelifts in successive variants, it has still managed to hold its place as a strong and off-roader, in the Indian market.

Maruti Suzuki Gypsy is a great all-terrain car that has made a name for itself in the Indian market for its ruggedness, power, and superb handling features. When you look at this amazing all-terrain car, you will find yourself transported back in time because the basic design of this car has not seen much change since it was first launched in 1983. At the front of this car, you will find a rectangle looking engine grill with round shaped headlamp cluster flanking it. This car is available both in soft-top, as well as in hardtop version. If you have the soft-top end trim, then you can completely remove the cover and have an open jeep to enjoy your ride. The wheel arches of Maruti Suzuki Gypsy are covered with hard plastic and you will find the spare wheel hanging on the rear door, which gives this car a rough and tough look.

The interior of this car will not give you the comfort of a premium SUV, but it will give you the solid feel that will make you confident about its ability to ride over any challenging terrains. The seats are placed quite high up and are well cushioned. The dashboard is intelligently designed with high-quality plastics that has all the knobs and dials well within your reach. The backseats of this car are also sturdy and comfortable. You will find a good amount of leg space on all the seats, which allows the riders to travel on this car without feeling constrained for space.

The Maruti Suzuki Gypsy has not changed very much over the years, not only in matters of looks and comfort features but also in its engine. It still runs on the 1298 cc petrol engine attached to a five-speed manual transmission box. This motor can generate a maximum power of 80 bhp and a torque of 103 Nm. Driving this car is smooth at lower rpm, but the moment you increase the throttle, you will hear some clanking noise in the engine. This engine, which was also there in the Esteem model, is quite efficient. As there is no power steering, it is pretty taxing on your muscles if you are taking this car for a long drive.

Price and Competition

Maruti Suzuki Gypsy is a very good off-roader that you can buy at the very competitive price. While the engine of this car may not be that efficient, but it will give you a great amount of torque that will allow you to drive it on any challenging tracks. The price range of this car is from Rs. 6.48 lakh to Rs. 6.62 lakh (approximate). If you want to look for some of the alternatives of this muscular looking SUV, then you can compare it with the Mahindra Thar and Nissan Micra.
