Mahindra has always captured the emotions of the automobile lovers by the production of utility vehicles. The automobile giant tapped into the sedan segment with the launch of Verito, which was earlier conceived as Logan. This compact sedan has successfully moved upmarket with every facelift, still managing to keep its price tag within the “value end” of the sedan section. In the 2016 Auto Expo, Mahindra revealed the electric version of this car and named it Mahindra e-Verito. The FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) scheme helps in grabbing subsidies in the manufacturing of this electric update.
The exterior of Verito presents a rugged and boxy contour, with chrome-finished grille and large headlamps at the edge of the bonnet. The sedan has gained premium features with every upgrade and available in four variants- D2, D4, D6, and the premium executive edition. You can avail it in nine colour options- Mist Silver, Diamond White, Pearl White, Fiery Black, Twilight Blue, Rocky Beige, Toreador Red, Dolphin Grey, and Java Brown. It comes with clear lens tail lamps, stylish fog lamps, roof rails, and chrome rear appliqué. The alloy wheels have 185/70 R14 tyre size.
The cabin of Verito has enough space for the riders in the front as well as the rear end. It comes with an elegant dual tone beige and black colour scheme, refined upholstery, and AC with ergonomic controls. The infotainment system has a built-in CD, MP3, USB, and AUX-IN plug-in. Electric ORVM Controls and door mounted power window switches are other premium features of this sedan. The rear seats are more extensive with good thigh support and leg space. The premium D6 version also has dual airbags, ABS and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) as added safety features.
The Verito gets powered by four-cylinder 1.5 dCi CRDi engine from Renault engine where the maximum power is 65 bhp@4000 rpm, and torque is 160 Nm@2000 rpm with 5-speed manual transmission gear type. The fuel tank has a capacity of 50 litres, and mileage is approximately 21.03 Kmpl in the highways. There are a front disc and rear drum brake with Macpherson-type With Wishbone Link front suspension. The car is comfortably priced between INR 7.48 lakh to INR 8.87 lakh (ex-showroom). Honda Amaze, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Etios, Tata Nexon, and Maruti Vitara Brezza are expected to offer stiff competition to this sedan.
Here are some of the advantages of riding the Verito. • The car has a solid body, modern suspension, and high ground clearance (172mm) which make the driving smooth. • The fuel efficiency (diesel) above 20 Kmpl on the highways is good for a sedan. • The cabin and boot space (510 L) is also good providing adequate comfort to the riders.
Verito also has a few disadvantages which you need to consider before buying this vehicle.
• The fuel efficiency in the petrol type is not as good as the diesel one. • Dual airbags, ABS with END are not present in all the variants, which makes the safety features vulnerable compared to other cars in the same price range.
Finally, we can say that as an entry-level sedan Mahindra Verito is worth buying at INR 7.48 lakhs. However, if you are looking for enhanced safety features and entertainment system, then there are many other cars providing stiff competition for this automobile.
