Mahindra e2o Plus is the latest zero-emission presentation from the Mahindra Electric (the electric vehicle component from Mahindra). It is a much-advanced version of its quirky siblings, Mahindra e2o and Mahindra eVerito. Now the car has four doors, runs for 140 Km at full charge, has upgraded software and connectivity, and comes with more legroom at the rear end. This upgrade is 310 millimetres longer, 61 millimetres wider and 25 millimetres taller than the earlier version. There are four variants of this electric car-P2, P4, P6, and P8; the ex-showroom price range starts at INR 5.46 lakhs.
The most prominent facelift in the e2o Plus is the inclusion of new grille with vertical striate which is a trademark of all Mahindra cars. It has the same projector headlamps of the older version. However, the LED tail lamps are vertically stacked. The car’s body is now made of ABS panel instead of pressed metal. The increase in dimension is a major USP, and it has increased the cabin space by a vehicle 150 litres. The wheelbase has also increased by 300 millimetres adding extra legroom to the automobile. You can even notice a roof-mounted spoiler and +ME badge on both the sides of the car.
The e2o Plus comes with many advanced features like an in-built computer which cautious you about the driving range and a touchscreen infotainment system from Blaupunkt in the centre console. There is a GPS enabled navigation system which is easy to use and very responsive. The car also has electronically adjustable exterior mirrors, power windows, keyless entry, rotary knobs for the AC, and the central digital display showing you the vehicle speed, shift status, and the charging remaining in the vehicle. The boot space is 135 litres, which is not big enough; however, you may fit in two medium size luggage in it.
The upper-end variant P8 gets powered by a 72V battery which claims a driving range of 140 Km when fully charged. The battery can offer a peak power of 41bhp at 3,500rpm and a torque of 91Nm at 2,500rpm. The lower-end models have a 48V battery and a power of 25 bhp@3500 rpm, and torque 70 Nm@1000 rpm. The electric car has direct-drive transmission and can reach a top speed of 85 Km/h. It takes about 9 hours to charge the battery unit fully. The car has alloy wheels with the tyre size 165/60/R14 - 79T and the ground clearance is 170 millimetres. You can find e2o plus in four colour options- Coral Blue, Solid White, Arctic Silver, and Wine Red.
There are several benefits of owning an e2o plus.
• The four doors in the car make it practical for Indian owners. The increased cabin space makes it one of the best electric vehicles in India. • The drive is smooth, and it also saves the planet as it has zero tailpipe emissions and negligible carbon footprint. • The claimed drive range of 140 Km makes it a practical car for daily commuting. • The GPS navigation, middle-class computer, and reverse sensing camera are some updated features which make it worth buying. • The ABS body panels make the vehicle dent resistant, and there are minimal chances of scratches.
There are a few disadvantages of owning the e2o Plus as well.
• India is still not adequately equipped to support the electric cars except states like Karnataka, Delhi, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. • The vehicle is a bit too expensive for the middle-class Indians. • It is strictly a 4-seater car. You can buy comfortable 5-seater ones within the same price range. • The top speed is merely 85 km/h which is not suitable for the highways. The suspension also requires better tuning.
So, we can say that e2o Plus is one of the best zero-emission cars available in India. However, the price tag is a bit too high for a small hatchback, and the country needs better infrastructure for maintaining this vehicle.
