Lexus, the luxury arm of the Japanese Auto giant ‘Toyota’ revealed the NX- a compact crossover SUV on April 20, 2014, at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. The name NX stands for Nimble Crossover, and its production began initially at the Miyata plant in Miyawaka, Fukuoka from August 2014 onwards. The SUV was launched in India in December 2017 promising outstanding driving dynamics with its hybrid powertrains. NX 300h has sharp, futuristic design along with aggressive styling. In India, two variant of this hybrid SUV is available- 300h Luxury and 300h F-Sport.
Lexus NX 300h has a stunning exterior design with unique sharp lines running all over the body surface. The front fascia bears the large signature spindle grill along with company logo in blue and black signifying its hybrid nature powertrain. On both the sides of the grille, you can find the stylish LED headlamps, and an independent LED DRL adding character to it. Lexus NX also has an elegant roof rail, side skirts, and a plastic cladding on its wheel arches. At the rear end, you would find LED wraparound tail lamps and a roof-mounted spoiler. There are nine attractive shades of this vehicle with Graphite Black Glass Flake, Platinum Silver Metallic, Red Mica Crystal Shine, and Sparkling Meteor Metallic being the popular ones.
The interiors of Lexus NX offer a premium and pleasing look. The dashboard and the seats are made in the black and white shade with contrast color stitching presenting a refined touch. The materials of the cabin are also of premium quality; you get soft-touch plastics and aluminum panels on the dashboard and central console along with synthetic leather wrapping on the steering wheel and seats. The seats in Lexus NX are also ergonomic and have a reclining function which is manual in the F-Sport and electric in the Luxury variant. There are enough knee and leg room, and excellent under-thigh support in both the models. However, the rear headroom and the boot space could have been better in this SUV. Like other premium Lexus automobiles, here also a 10.3-inch infotainment screen takes care of navigation and entertainment.
The hybrid Lexus NX 300h gets powered by a 2.5-liter petrol motor generating a maximum power of 152 bhp@5700 rpm and a peak torque of 210 Nm@4200-4400 rpm. There are also two electric motors powering the front and rear wheels and a generator serving as an engine starter. All together you get a combined power output of 195 bhp. The motors remain mated to an E-CVT gearbox with 6-speeds. However, the engine turns out to be a bit noisy especially when the revs increase. It begins to feel sluggish and does not show prompt speed build-up.
Lexus NX 300h is available in the Indian market at a starting price range of INR 54.78 lakh (Ex-Showroom Price, Inclusive GST) for the Luxury variant and INR 57.18 lakh for the F-Sport model. It offers fierce competition to BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
• The SUV has an impressive mileage of 18.3 Kmpl. • The futuristic looks of the car along with aggressive styling makes owning this vehicle a passion among the auto enthusiasts. • The 10.3-inch infotainment system along with 14-speaker Mark Levinson audio unit is one of the best in the segment. • Since the SUV is available in India as a Completely Built Unit, the pricing is on the higher side. • The engine becomes noise with increasing speed, and the acceleration is also sluggish. • The boot space is also not adequate for family journeys.
Finally, we can say that if you wish to own a super stylish car with a hybrid technology within INR 60 lakh, Lexus NX is worth considering.
