Lexus Motors unveiled its flagship SUV, Lexus LX450d in 1995. It is the most luxurious and premium features loaded vehicle by the Japanese auto giants. In many ways, you would find it strikingly similar to the Toyota Land Cruiser LC200. It is because both the SUV remains based on the same platform. The presence of Lexus branding makes the LX450 more sophisticated and upmarket version of the Land Cruiser. It is the third product of Lexus for the Indian auto lovers after the successful launch of ES300h sedan and the RX450h SUV. However, while most of the Lexus vehicles are hybrids, LX450d is a diesel model.

Missing the charms and grandeur of LX450d is difficult. The SUV has a grand road presence, being more than 5 metres in length and approximately 2 metres in breadth. This colossal dimension is enough to convert a casual glance into a long stare. The large signature spindle grille would leave you spellbound along with its high bonnet and large chunky wheels. Another spectacular feature of the front fascia is its striking LED headlamps intelligently paired with fog-plus-cornering lamps. The SUV also has superb paint quality, and you can own it in 7 attractive colours- Starlight Black Glass Flake, Deep Blue Mica, Sonic Titanium, and Sonic Quartz being the most popular ones.

The cabin of Lexus LX450d is done with premium quality leather and wood trims all across. The presence of an analogue clock in the centre of the dashboard adds a sophisticated touch. The front seats are ergonomic, ventilated, and extremely spacious so that even the healthy adults feel comfortable there. It also offers a better view of the road due to its height. The width of the rear seat is enough for three adults, but the legroom could have been better. There are four cameras in the car offering a 360-degree view of the road and thus assist in parking. The massive infotainment screen on the central dashboard is not touch-sensitive. Lexus has provided a joy-pad for operating it. The audio system has excellent sound quality thanks to the 19-speaker Mark Levinson unit. The rear riders can also enjoy the benefits of two 11.6-inch screens. One unusual feature of this SUV is, however, the presence of manual sunshade for the sunroof.

Under the hood of Lexus LX450d, you get a 4.5-litre V8 diesel engine churning out a maximum power of 261 bhp@3400 rpm and a peak torque of 650 Nm@1600-2600 rpm. The motor remains mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission supplying power to all the wheels. Even though the SUV weighs 3.3 tonnes, the powerful engine can zoom from 0 to 100 Kmph in just 8.6 seconds. There are five driving modes- Normal, Eco, Comfort, Sport S, and Sport S+ which you can select as per your convenience. Initially, the engine takes some time before building up the speed as part throttle responses can turn the gearbox confused before deciding the correct ratio.

Price and Competition

Lexus LX450d is available in India at an exorbitant price range of INR 2.32 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). It takes on the likes of Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sports, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and Audi Q7.
