Overview

Isuzu launched the ‘Adventure Utility Vehicle’ D-Max V-Cross in India during the 2016 Auto Expo. It is a perfect utility pick-up truck with excellent off-roading abilities. D-Max V-Cross remains based on the Isuzu’s Gravity Response Intelligent Platform and sport a bold wedge-shaped design. You can achieve the best of both the worlds- efficiency of a utility vehicle along with the comforts of a personal automobile in this pick-up truck. Currently, the Japanese Automakers are offering a limited edition ‘Jonty Rhodes Limited 30’ accessories package with this vehicle after the South African fielder opted to be a brand ambassador of this company. You get various sporty upgrades along with a chance of meeting the iconic cricketer after owning this utility vehicle.

Exterior

In spite of being a utility vehicle, D-Max V-Cross offers stylish exteriors with a very attractive front fascia. The chrome finished grille with the ISUZU badging in the centre, and two chunky projectors LED DRLs headlamps to accentuate the look. It also has two stylish chrome roof rails, sporty rear bumper, and bulged out tail lamps. Two large mud flaps have been provided behind the 16-inch alloy wheels keeping in mind the off-roading credentials of this vehicle. You can own this pick-up truck in five attractive colours including- Splash White, Obsidian Grey, Orchid Brown, Cosmic Black, and Titanium Silver. It has 1,485mm long cargo deck with a payload rating of 265 kg (internationally 1 ton, purposefully lowered in India so that you get the private vehicle tag) offering enough space for your daily business.

Interior

The cabin of D-Max V-Cross has a comfortable and spacious cabin. The dashboard is in beige and black theme, with the pillars and roof liner in wheatish grey. This light colour cabin looks sophisticated; however, it is not suitable in a utility vehicle as there is a higher probability of it getting dirty within a short period. The cabin is large enough so that the front seat passengers do not feel cramped. The seats are spacious but have thin cushioning. The three-spoke steering wheel has a few functional buttons for controlling the audio system. The 7-inch touchscreen infotainment has Bluetooth connectivity, USB input, AUX, iPod, DVD support for the premium audio experience.

Engine

D-Max V-Cross gets powered by 4-Cylinder VGS Turbo Intercooled Diesel engine generating a maximum power of 134 bhp@3600 rpm and a peak torque of 320 Nm@1800-2800 rpm. There are two variants available in this vehicle-Standard and High. Being a utility vehicle, you cannot expect too much refinement in the engine; it transmits vibrations to the cabin, especially to the gear lever. The oil burner remains mated to a five-speed manual transmission gearbox supplying power to all the wheels. The maximum speed is 175 Kmph, and the mileage is 14.4 Kmpl.

Price and Competition

D-Max V-Cross is available in India at an ex-showroom price of INR 14.82 lakh (Standard) to INR 15.82 lakh (High). Very few automobiles offer competition to this utility vehicle. Mahindra Scorpio Getaway only comes close to it.

Pros and Cons

• The vehicle comes with macho styling and outstanding street presence. It comes with a sturdy body and a comfortable cabin. • The four-wheel drive option and high ground clearance (225 millimetres) allow it to drive in all terrains. • The cargo space is robust, making it a good partner for daily business.

• The rising dynamics is not pleasurable in this vehicle, especially in the rear end. • The after sales services and dealership network of Isuzu in India needs improvement. • The cabin is comfortable but not refined.

Finally, we can say that if you wish to invest in a pickup truck having good off-roading abilities and a comfortable cabin, then Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is the best choice.
