After the spectacular success of the standard Hyundai i20 as a small family car for an intercity ride, Hyundai decided to launch an even more feature rich car for its customers. The Hyundai i20 Active is a well-designed car that is comfortable to ride in and houses a wide range of comfort features.
The Hyundai i20 Active is made especially for those people who are looking for a small hatchback that comes with a refined personality. This car can be best described as the luxurious version of the standard i20 model. This car is 20mm taller than any standard car, which allows the riders a greater headroom. This height gives this car a better stance on the road along with a greater ground clearance, which allows it to drive over rough terrain without any issues. The designers of Hyundai i20 Active has used black colour cladding over the wheel arches, just below the doors and the lower portion of the backside bumper. To improve upon its looks, the designers have used a round shaped fog lamps, beautifully designed headlamp cluster, a chrome decorated engine grill, a smooth -looking roof rail and superbly crafted LED tail lamp cluster and the chrome-accentuated logo of Hyundai embedded on the back of the car.
When you enter the passenger cabin, you will find that it looks similar to the standard i20 with some minor changes. One such change is the colour, which is brighter, and you will find that the pedal of the car comes with metal covering. The dashboard of this car has a simple design with a cool looking central console that houses the audio system and the AC vents. There is no infotainment system in this car. The seats are well designed and the spacious cabin gives the riders an adequate leg and shoulder room, which ensures that none of them feels uncomfortable doing a long ride.!!
The engineers have equipped this exciting looking hatchback, both petrol as well as diesel engines. If you are interested in the petrol model, then it houses a K1.2 litres Kappa petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 82 bhp. On the other hand, if you are looking for a diesel model, then it comes with a 1.4 L U2 CRDi diesel engine that can generate a maximum power of 89 bhp. While the entry and the mid-level trims of this car are provided with the five-speed manual gearbox, the upper-end trim is blessed with a six-speed transmission box. The driving capability of Hyundai i20 Active is almost similar to the regular i20. While the grip of the car on the road is very good, the steering wheel feels a bit clunky, which in turn make you hesitate to take tight corners at high speed in this car. Both the petrol and the diesel model works superbly at low power, but at higher rpm, it seems the power suddenly tapers off.
The price range of this car is Rs. 7.11 lakh to Rs. 10.17 lakhs (approximate). If you are looking for alternatives to Hyundai i20 Active, then you can consider Hyundai Elite i20 and TATA Nexon.
