Fiat Avventura made a grand entry to the Indian Automobile market in October 2014. Italian-American auto major Fiat Chrysler first revealed the car during the Auto Expo 2014, and the car lovers were impressed by the styling and muscular look of this compact SUV. The vehicle is available in five variants and three trims- Active, Dynamic and Emotion. You get two petrol and three diesel versions of this SUV. Currently, the ex-showroom price range starts at INR 7.12 Lakhs. You will find this automobile in six attractive color options- Pearl White, Minimal Grey, Hip Hop Black, Zafferano Orange, Exotica Red, and Bronzo Tan. Externally, the SUV looks like a sized-up version of Punto Evo, and it promises to offer fierce competition to Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Etios Cross, and Volkswagen Cross Polo.
The most striking external feature of the Fiat Avventura is the presence of a massive spare wheel cover mounted on the tailgate offering a sporty look to the vehicle. At first glance, it looks like being attached to the boot lid. However, it actually rests on an arm of the bumper. Overall, the compact SUV presents aggressive styling in the form of a new bumper with tough-looking cladding, pseudo-skid-plate, and stylish aluminium roof rails. The ground clearance is 205 millimetres which are 20 millimetres more than Punto Evo, and same as Renault Duster. You can also see massive wheel arches offering space to the 16-inch alloy wheels with a tyre size 205/55 R16.
The moment you step into an Avventura you get a feel of the luxury and sophistication of Italian designs. You find a ‘tilt-meter’ and digital compass smartly seating on the AC vents grabbing the rider’s attention. Since the SUV was conceived as an off-roading vehicle, the compass acts as a gyrometer displaying the vehicle’s tilt. The dashboard has a two-tone colour, with a part-soft touch of light grey Alcantara-like material. Internally it is very similar to the top-spec Punto with climate control AC unit, rear AC vent, infotainment system having CD, MP3 and Aux-in options, power windows, and adjustable power steering with audio control. The seats have hybrid leather and fabric covers, with soft cushions for lumbar support.
Avventura is available in both the petrol and diesel fuel options. The petrol version gets powered by a 1.4 litres engine proving a maximum power of 89bhp@6000, and torque of 115Nm@4500. The diesel SUV has a 1.3 Litres engine generating maximum power of 92bhp@4000rpm, and 209 Nm@2000 rpm. Both the fuel types have 4-cylinders and 5-speed manual transmission gear. Safety features like dual airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Child Safety lock, and Keyless Entry are available in Avventura. The suspension is firm, and the vehicle remains unfazed even while driving on rough pot-holed roads. However, Avventura is still not ready for off-roading.
There are many features which you would love in the Fiat Avventura.
• The exterior of the SUV is very stylish with a large tail-mounted spare wheel, plastic claddings and roof rails. Avventura also has a solid body which offers a pleasurable ride. • The suspension is superb, and you would not be able to feel the rough road patches. • The automobile has chunky 16-inch alloy wheels and a massive 205 millimetres ground clearance. • Safety features like ABS with EBD, dual airbags, and child safety locks are available in diesel versions. • The car makers have also included many comforts and convenience features like climate control AC, rear AC vent, steering mounted audio control, and keyless entry.
There are some features which you may not like in this compact SUV.
• The presence of the tail-mounted spare wheel makes opening the hatch a cumbersome affair. • The SUV is not capable of off-roading as it lacks four-wheel-drive traction. • Safety features like dual airbags and ABS with EBD are absent in the petrol versions. • The long throw rubbery gearshift also needs improvement.
Finally, we can say that as a compact SUV or crossover vehicle Fiat Avventura delivers what it promises. However, if you are looking for a real SUV, which can ride over rough terrains then go for a vehicle with four-wheel-drive options.
