In the Auto Expo 2018, the renowned German car manufacturer BMW unveiled the latest version of the already famous X6 series Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). The first generation of this automobile got released in 2008 and went unchallenged till Mercedes-Benz launched the GLE Coupe. After that, in 2015 X6 got a facelift and upgraded version with many cosmetic tweaks. It looked more impressive with the front signature kidney grille, along with the LED headlamps extending up to the grille and LED taillamps at the rear end. The 2018 version has one petrol xDrive35i M Sport and a diesel xDrive40d M Sports configuration. The petrol X6 is approximately INR 32 lakhs cheaper than the diesel configuration and is currently available at INR 94.15 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Externally the coupe-SUV looks more stunning with imposing kidney grille, classy LED headlights, and bumper mounted LED fog lamps. You would be spoilt for choices while selecting the colour of the X6 as it is available in fifteen attractive options. Azurite Black, Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver, Flamenco Red Brillant Effect, and Alpine White are some of the popular colour choices. The SAV has massive 20-inch wheels with the front tyre size 275 / 40 R20 and 315 / 35 R20 rear tyres. The ground clearance is 212 millimetres helping it to glide through the rough terrain of Indian roads. The vehicle has a huge boot space of 550 Litres enough for all the luggage of family trips.

The interiors of X6 are as impressive as the exterior. You get all the advanced safety features including keyless entry, rear parking camera, electrically adjustable rear view mirror, multiple airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and hill-assist to name a few. The SAV also has electrically adjustable front seats and premium upholstery in Dakota leather with Nappa leather remaining another option. BMW also takes care of the entertainment while riding and implements a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system taking care of most of the car functions including the iDrive option. There are two additional two 9.2-inch entertainment screens for the rear passengers with remote control access. The 600W Harman Kardon speakers take care of the acoustic functions.

Under the hood, you get a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, turbocharged engine which can produce a maximum power of 302 bhp@5800-6400 rpm and torque of 400 Nm@1200-5000 rpm in the petrol configuration, and 308 bhp@4400 rpm, and 630 Nm@1500-2500 rpm in the diesel variant. The engine remains paired to 8-speed Steptronic transmission for zooming through the roads. You can attain a maximum speed of 240 Kmph in BMW X6, and the fuel efficiency is 10.88 Kmpl and 15.87 Kmpl in the petrol and diesel variant respectively. The automobile experts feel this SAV is going to offer fierce competition to Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

Pros and Cons

There are several features which you would like in the BMW X6.

      BMW X6 has one of the smoothest and powerful engines in the automobile industry. The 3L turbocharged engine can conquer ant road condition.

      The interiors of the car offer a premium experience to the riders. The seats and upholstery speak volume of the aesthetic sense of BMW.

      The navigation and infotainment system is one of the best in the industry.

In spite of having so many advanced features, there are a few drawbacks in BMW X6 as well.

      The pricing of this car is a bit too high for the Indian markets.

      The passengers sitting in the rear seats may feel a bit cramped as the roofline cuts into headroom.

      The boots space could have been bigger, and the rear visibility needs improvement.

Finally, we can say if you are looking for a sturdy and practical SAV with all the advanced features then BMW X6 is the right choice for you. However, good things never come cheap, so be prepared to shell out more than INR 1 crore to ride this car.
