Overview

BMW has launched the updated version of the M3 sedan during the Auto Expo 2018. It is a stylish high-performing sports sedan with equally impressive interiors. Beating at the heart of M3, there is a Twin Power Turbo Inline 6-cylinder Engine roaring to glide through the roads. One of the most striking features of the sedan is the presence of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) driveshaft making it as strong as steel, but reducing the weight by almost 50 per cent. It helps in transmitting the power of the engine to the rear tyres more effectively. The outgoing model of M3 had a choice of body configuration; however, the facelift is available only as a sedan. BMW will make this sedan available in the Indian market as completely built up (CBU) units.

Exterior

The 2018 version of M3 is a single trim model having many adaptive features. It has bid goodbye to the earlier xenon headlights, and now you can enjoy the entirely LED lights with two open circles. The signature double slats kidney grille comes in high gloss black paint and remains connected with the headlamps. In the lower end, you get the massive air intakes and body-coloured bumper offering an aggressive sporty look. The sedan is available in India in eight attractive shades with Silver Stone, Mineral White, Yas Marin Blue, Black Sapphire, and Austin Yellow being the popular ones. The 18-inch alloy wheels and the quad tailpipes also add character to the car.

Interior

BMW has given an upmarket premium look to the cabin. You get eye-catching curves on the dashboard and the central console offering a sophisticated touch. Other advanced features of M3 include 10-way adjustable front seats with heated function and an illuminated M logo present on the backrest, self-dimming mirrors, heated steering wheel, and two-zone automatic climate-control air con units. An 8.8-in widescreen LED display takes care of the infotainment function of the vehicle. It remains tuned to a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system turning the car to a mini auditorium. The navigation system also has blind-spot detection ability, Wi-Fi and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

Engine

Under the hood of M3, you get a 3-Litre Twin Power Turbo Inline engine generating a maximum power of 431 bhp@5500-7300 rpm and a peak torque of 550 Nm@1850-5500 rpm. The engine is a mini monster and packs a massive punch at a wide range of speed. The rapid acceleration helps the car to attain 100 Kmph in just 4.1 seconds. The maximum speed is 250 Kmph, and the average mileage is 10.75 Kmpl. A 7-speed automatic transmission gearbox transmits power to the rear wheel of the sedan.

Price and Competition

The BMW M3 is available in India at INR 1.3 crore, and Audi RS7 Sportback and Cadillac ATS-V offer competition to this car.

Pros and Cons

The advantages of owning BMW M3 includes the following. • The sedan has a mighty engine and seamless gearshift making driving a pleasure. • The car has very stylish look making it the most sought-after automobile. • The carbon ceramic brakes bring the sedan to a halt immediately on sensing a traffic obstacle.

M3 also has a few drawbacks.

• M3 is a pricey sedan, owning it is not possible for a majority of the car lovers. • The middle seat in the rear end is not spacious.

Finally, we can say that if you love premium sports sedan and ready to shell out INR 1.3 crore, then BMW m3 is the right choice for you.
