BMW released the 7-series sedan in India during the Auto Expo 2016. It was one of the most technologically advanced automobiles at that time and offered stiff competition to Mercedes S-class and Audi A8. In the beginning, only two trims- Design Pure Excellence (DPE) and M-Sport – in both petrol and diesel were available for the automobile lovers and the price range at that time started from INR 1.11 crore. Later on, in May 2017 BMW introduced two new configurations to the already successful 7 Series line-up- M760Li xDrive and the M760Li xDrive V12 Excellence. The facelift is based on the Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform where it borrows the basic design and engine from the older sibling and adds upgraded features to it. This sedan made its entry to India through Completely Built Up (CBU) route.

On the outer surface, the 7-series bears the signature kidney grille which is a trademark of all the BMW automobiles. The car has an impressive design with a bulging hood with neat character lines along with strong shoulder line running up to the L-shaped wraparound LED tail lamps. You can pick your favourite colour option from a range of twelve attractive colours- Black Sapphire, Alpine White, Cashmere Silver, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect, and Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect being some of the popular options. The swept back LED headlamps adds character to the car. They come with laser light and integrated LED DRLs and remain connected to the front grille. In the lower part, you can see large air inlets along with LED fog lamps looking attractive with chrome surround.

The interiors of 7 serious are swanky giving you a premium upmarket feel the moment you step inside the cabin. It is spacious and has enough leg, knee and shoulder room for the occupants. The upholstery is in premium leather with an intelligent Pinewood and chrome combination to break the monotony. You get wide seats with massage functions, lumbar support, and front and rear armrest. There is a latest 10.25-inch high-resolution infotainment system where the audio features are taken care by 20-speaker Harman Kardon unit having integrated Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

Under the hood, you get 3 Litres Twin Power Turbo 6-Cylinder Engine in both the diesel and petrol guise and an upgraded 6.6 litres Twin Power Turbo 12-cylinder Petrol Engine only in petrol configuration. The power in all the trims gets mated by 8-speed Steptronic sport automatic transmission gearbox. The 6.5 Litres engine churns out a maximum power of 601 bhp@5500-6500 rpm and a peak torque of 800 Nm@1550-5000 rpm. The car has swift acceleration and can reach 0 to 100 Kmph in just 3.7 seconds, and the maximum speed is 250 Kmph. There is also plug-in hybrid variant available in the 2018 version of 7 series.

Pros and Cons

There are several advantages to owning a BMW 7-series.

      The 6.6 LitresV12 engine is one of the most powerful engines in the segment available in top-spec M760i xDrive model.

      This plug-in hybrid variant available in the 740e xDrive iPerformance trim helps in improving the fuel efficiency and capable of generating 332 hp power.

      The acceleration is very impressive in the M760Li xDrive V12 Excellence and can reach 0-100 Kmph in just 3.7 seconds.

      The adaptive air-suspension is one of the best in the industry offering smooth handling and riding of the vehicle.

There are few drawbacks in the 7-series as well.

      The top-spec version is quite pricey and available at INR 2.45 crore, which generate limited takers for this sedan.

      The hybrid-battery pack limits the boot space of 7 series.

      The long dimension makes parking of the car a challenging task.

      Though CarPlay is available, you need to shell out $300 extra for the service.

Finally, we can say you are looking for a spunky and enthralling luxury vehicle above INR 1.5 crore then BMW is the right choice.
