Overview

BMW Introduced the luxurious liftback- 6-series GT (Gran Turismo) during the Auto Expo 2018. This automobile is for those who have a taste for individuality, aesthetics, and search for exceptional ride comfort. The car was unbelievably priced at INR 58.9 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and in the beginning, only the petrol configuration was available in the Indian market. In the mid of the year, BMW also released the diesel variant. There are two trims for both the fuel version- 630i Sports Line and 630i Luxury Line. Both the types get locally assembled at the Chennai facility in India. Placed in between the 5-Series and the 7-Series, 6-series GT will offer fierce competition to Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Ford Mustang, Audi A6, Volvo’s S90, and the Lexus ES.

Exterior

The 6-Series GT sedan is the ‘Tourer’ version of the already successful 5 Series sedan and built around the idea of providing a premium and spacious option to the older sibling. The most striking feature of the exterior of this liftback is the sloping roof which ends in the boot section. The car also has stylish LED headlamps with two open circles and sporty taillamps. You can never miss the signature kidney grille in BMW, and there are large air vents below this section. The 6-Series GT is available in India in six classic colors- Mineral White, Royal Burgundy Red brilliant effect, Mediterranean Blue, Bluestone, Glacier Silver, and Carbon Black.

Interior

You get a luxurious up-market feel of the interior of 6-Series GT thanks to the large cabin, though the design, especially in the Sports trim, is quite similar to the 5-Series. The upholstery is in Nappa leather with a faux-leather dashboard top. There is a two-part panoramic glass roof, and electrically operated sun blinds adding to the style quotient. The sedan also comes with rear entertainment screens, four-zone auto-climate control air con system, reclining rear backrest and adaptive air suspension giving a more premium 7-series feel to the riders. The 10.25-inch infotainment system has the latest iDrive technology along with a gesture control touchscreen.

Engine

Under the hood, you get a powerful 2Litre TwinPower Turbo Inline 4-Cylinder Engine in petrol variant and 3 Litre 6-Cylinder Engine in diesel configuration. The petrol engine generates a maximum power of 254 bhp@5000-6500 rpm and a peak torque of 400 Nm@1550-4400 rpm. These values in the diesel version are 262 bhp@4000 rpm and 620 Nm@2000-2500 rpm. In both the cases, the power gets transmitted by an 8-speed fully automatic transmission gearbox. The 0-100 Kmph sprint gets completed in just above 6 seconds in both the variant and the maximum speed which you can achieve is 250 Kmph.

Pros and Cons

There are many advantages of driving the BMW 6-Series GT.

• The car has one of the stylish exteriors with a long bonnet and low-roof coupe-like feature. • The cabin of 6-Series GT is spacious, and there is ample space for all the occupants in the front and rear end. There are entertainment screens even for the rear passengers. • The gesture-controlled infotainment system can recognize six pre-defined hand gestures which you can use control many functions. • The air-suspension provide silky smooth, luxurious riding quality. There are some drawbacks in this car as well.

• The price range of the car is a bit high considering the specifications it is offering. • The maintenance cost of 6-Series GT is also quite high. • The rear seats could have been more premium like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
